The artist previously worked for PlayStation's Uncharted series which, for some reason, people were able to draw a link. However, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as well, and when the game's official unveiling took place in the first place with D2R Items, a lot of Zelda gamers blasted it, claiming they were expecting something different. In a new interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky admitted that the rumor was a source of discontent for the team behind the game.
"Sometimes it's frustrating because it leads to false expectations. I believe that was the case when we announced Tropical Freeze. People were saying 'they're working hard on a Zelda game They're working on an Zelda game', but like nope. And we announced Tropical Freeze and it looks incredible and stunning and then people think "oh, but it's another Donkey Kong.'
And then you see that people are going on about the Neogaf show or something and you're like 'oh and everyone thought we were doing an Zelda game. But it's no, that's not what we do.' So it's both in that we sometimes laugh at it, and at other times it can get aggravating when it lasts a more than it should," said Kozlowsky.
Kozlowsky's statements are an interesting look at how rumors spread and how this can adversely affect a game's popularity. Although Tropical Freeze might not have been the game that many fans had hoped to see released the game received a lot reviews upon its launch. It's always frustrating to put hard work into something, and then have the internet react with disappointment based on false rumors. It's hard to control how fans will react to an announcement about a sport and, hopefully, that experience helped some fans understand the importance of making sure their expectations are in check!
